Welcome

Welcome to the Fylde Netball League Website

The Fylde Netball League plays all year round with a two-round summer season and a three-round winter season. There are currently over 50 teams in the league playing in six divisions: Divisions 1 & 2 play on a Tuesday night, 3 & 4 on Monday and 5 & 6 on Thursday.

Our umpire training programme is widely recognised as being of an exemplary standard, with 22 'C' grade and 4 'B' grade umpires currently registered with the league. We are proud to be able to provide two umpires for every FNL game.

The Executive Committee hold regular meetings to discuss and resolve FNL issues. The AGM is held in January, at which all teams have their say in how the League is run.

History of the Fylde Netball League

The League was inaugurated on the 2nd July 1959 with an initial 8 teams participating. The first President was Mrs Margaret Machin the then Mayoress of Blackpool, who remained Vice President until her death in 1985.

By 1965 the League had expanded to 14 teams and 2 divisions, with a 3rd division added by 1976. The League then consisted of over 300 players for 24 teams from all around the Fylde area from Fleetwood in the North to Freckleton in the South.

During the 1980's the League continued to go from strength to strength with a Winter League being introduced and during the late 80's the League reached its peak with 6 divisions.

At the AGM in 1989, the members voted to affiliate to the All England Netball Association (now referred to as England Netball).
